Questions for Thursday 6/3

We're meeting Thursday 8-11 a.m. in the FS lounge. Come if you can! Otherwise, please participate or get Sean answers/opinions by Thursday so we can incorporate your mana'o into our discussion.

I. LEARNING OUTCOMES

We decided to just use the Hawaii GLOs. Please go over them below and raise questions or concerns.

Another option would be the “Seven C’s” from the New Tech site.
http://tinyurl.com/sevencs

Determine and Define learning outcomes (PHASE 1 and 2): GLOs

Self-directed Learner (The ability to be responsible for one's own learning)
Community Contributor (The understanding that it is essential for human beings to work together)
Complex Thinker (The ability to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving)
Quality Producer (The ability to recognize and produce quality performance and quality products)
Effective Communicator (The ability to communicate effectively)
Effective and Ethical User of Technology (The ability to use a variety of technologies effectively and ethically)

PHASE 3: DEVELOP RUBRICS to measure these learning outcomes

See for example from Hawaii elementary levels or:

http://doe.k12.hi.us/curriculum/GLO_rubric_grade1-6.htm

PHASE 4: Determine which learning outcomes will be evaluated in each course (prep for GradePortal Training)

II. STAFF NORMS

This includes common language, routines/rituals, and meeting times.

We’ve already discussed using common prep or meeting time after school to meet.
Today we discussed terminology for SP Academy personnel:
Students will be “academy associates.”
Teachers will be “advisors.”
Rosters could be “staff.”
Leaders within classroom activities could be “facilitators,” “coordinators,” “managers.”

If you have any additional ideas on any of this, especially routines/rituals, please give suggestions!

Ritual/language? SP has used “If can, can. If no can, no can.”

Entrance/exit procedures
Bellwork (label?), exit pass?

Getting class attention/refocusing: Clap; Raise hand; Count; Bell; “May I have your attention?” and wait...

Do we need this to be a common practice?

Others:

III. STUDENT NORMS

What are acceptable and unacceptable behaviors and language?

Profanity
Electronics
Classroom disruptions
Etc.

IV. DECISION MAKING PROCESS

If you have any ideas about a process we should routinely use, please make suggestions. Here are five options from NTN: http://tinyurl.com/spdecisions
